All data is encoded in binary, which is either a 0 or a 1. Like other data, color images are composed of binary. Each color pixel is represented by a combination of 8 bits representing a shade of red, green, or blue. For example, dark green would be coded like this: 01010010 (red), 10011010 (green), and 01100110 (blue). Each pixel on the screen is represented by a combination of these red, green, and blue binary strings. That is how images are broken down into a series of 0s and 1s.
